A motorized cold therapy machine for the knee. Fill the cooler with ice and water, and a quiet pump circulates the chilled water through a pad that wraps all the way around the knee. Picked by a pre- & post-op trainer for cold therapy at home.

Full-wrap knee pad with elastic and hook-and-loop belts. Choose the pad shape that fits your leg (see below).
Programmable timer and flow control on a handheld remote, so you set how long each session runs and how cold the water flows.
9-quart or 16-quart cooler. The 16-quart holds more ice and water, so you refill it less often, and it rolls on wheels.
5 ft of insulated tubing with quick-disconnect couplings, so the pad unhooks from the cooler.
One knee or both knees. The two-pad version runs both pads from one cooler with a Y-connector.

Choosing a pad

Large tapered (30 x 16.5 in, 3 belts): for legs where the thigh is wider than the calf. The wide end goes on the thigh.
Small tapered (24 x 12 in, 2 belts): the same shape for smaller legs.
Rectangular (22.5 x 13 in, 2 belts): for legs where the thigh and calf are about the same width.

How to use: fill the cooler with cold water to the fill line and add ice, or frozen water bottles for less mess. Connect the pad with the quick-disconnect couplings, plug in the power, and press the center button on the timer to start. Set the timer and flow settings to the schedule your doctor or care team gives you.

This machine is meant for use under a doctor's care, when your doctor has recommended a cold therapy machine. Follow the manual and your doctor's instructions on how long and how often to use it, and how to check your skin.
Don't use it if you have diabetes, poor circulation, Raynaud's or another condition that affects the blood vessels, nerve problems (neuropathy) or sensitivity to cold.
It can get cold enough to injure the skin, so always keep a thin cloth, towel or clothing between the pad and your skin. Use by children, or by anyone who can't check their own skin, should be supervised.

Sanity saver after total knee replacement
Sanity saver after total knee replacement. The hospital provided an ice machine from another manufacturer. The hoses were shorter, held much less ice, and turned on/off by plugging the controller in. The cooling pad only covered the top of the knee and sides. I tried using it for a day and rush ordered the Polar Ice based on a friend’s recommendation. The Polar Ice is a much much better device. It stays cold for several hours, the controller is longer, has an off/on and is programmable. I was able to program it to run for 20” on, 30” off and go to sleep without worrying. The full knee cooling pad did a fantastic job of cooling the front, back & sides of my knee. The surgeon was impressed at the level of swelling I had at my 2 week post op visit. I truly believe the Polar Ice machine is the reason I have relatively little extra swelling. I’ve relied on the ice machine to help control my pain and it’s done a fantastic job. I purchased the additional wireless remote. While it isn’t absolutely necessary because the included controller is decently long & easy to use, I found it incredibly convenient to use the remote. The unit is small, lightweight & incredibly quiet. I highly recommend using frozen water bottles. It made refreshing the ice very simple. I found having 3 sets of 5 water bottles in the freezer was sufficient to keep me happily cooled.

Customer service is excellent 🦋
I was in rehab hospital and thought I would be there to receive. Then I thought I would not be there. They were so patient and helpful for me. I ended up being at the rehab and they changed shipping instructions right away. I wish I had gotten it before my knee surgery. Grateful I have it now. User friendly and the one with the roller helps a great deal when you live alone. Highly recommend 😍

Everything I hoped it would be
The Polar Cold Therapy system is even better than I imagined it would be. I used a cryo cuff a couple years ago and it got the job done. But this is Miles better! I leave it on my knee and the timer on the motor does the job! The cooling is more effective due to the circulation of the cold water and the frozen water bottle method is brilliant. Worth every penny!

Post knee replacement cryotherapy
I am currently almost 2 weeks post knee replacement surgery. I purchased the ice machine just prior to my surgery so it was all ready to go immediately following the surgery. The cooling pad wraps fully around my knee which is really important. The cooler fits 6 frozen water bottles plus water that circulates the cooler and the cooling pad. I purchased an extra segment of tubing which I’m glad I did because I sleep on the right side of my bed but my surgical leg is my left. So it’s reaches with plenty of slack. In addition if I want to sleep on my side everything reaches perfectly. I fill the new ice bottles every night before bedtime and can easily use it for pain relief during the night, the next morning as well as through the day. It stays cold for this period of time. I feel I’ve been able to eliminate some pain meds due to the relief from this Polar Ice cryotherapy machine. It’s been a life saver which I’m so incredibly grateful for. The product arrived quickly and smoothly, was very easy to set up, and is high quality. It’s a wonderful product and I would highly recommend getting it.

Essential for Ortho Surgery Recovery
I planned use a previous machine I had after surgery, but my ortho group had a concern with it at post-op so I had to find one quickly for my recovery. This unit is awesome and the customer support was exceptional. Turns out this company was local to me so that I was able to order direct from their site and send hubby to pick up later that day 2 days post surgery when it was needed badly. I got the full rectangular knee pad and it has worked out well as I can wrap the entire knee, or use it the opposite direction to cover the thigh, knee and calf, depending on how my leg is feeling. The corded timer which it comes with is a nice feature, and I also got the wireless one. However how I am set up I haven't that needed much. Customer service was always available by phone during business hours and super helpful! I appreciate the great service!

Great for full knee replacement recovery
The system arrived quickly and was easy to set up. We have been using 3 sets of 5 frozen water bottles and that works well for us. Being able to adjust the level of coldness has been very useful: we have set it at 2 and that is plenty cold for us. The wireless remote is extremely useful. We set the system at 20 minutes on and 20 minutes on and it runs automatically. The tubing is flexible and seems very durable. The system really helps with swelling and pain reduction. Customer service responsiveness to any email we have sent has been outstanding.

Pleased with operation

I was able with use of the timer to keep the pad on my knee all night-circulated water for 10 min. then 20 min. off. Kept cold all night. No condensation on skin. Very quiet with pump runnning. Pad went around entire knee. Velcro straps stay tight. Great product.

FANTASTIC!
I had at TKR 6 weeks ago and I started off with a borrowed/used ice machine (another brand) which got me through the first 2 weeks post-op however, it was a very old and antiquated. Works well. Remote with on off feature is great. Full circumference pad is big, but early on after my knee replacement my leg was so swollen that it wouldn't wrap completely around my thigh. The Y spliter hose with a second full circumference pad work well to cover upper and lower part of my leg as the swelling went from my upper thigh to my ankle. Controller is the best feature
I waited until the surgery recovery to write this to ensure full satisfaction. I used another product with a prior surgery that worked well too but the REAL difference in the Polar Active Ice machine is the handheld controller and the ability to set on and off cooling periods. It is easy to set up, has a digital display that identifies the cooling level and the time remaining on each cycle. It made a huge difference as opposed to having to turn other products on and off.

Uninterrupted sleep
This larger reservoir allows enough frozen bottles to let you sleep for 8 hours. I spent the first week with the smaller machine the hospital provided and had to set an alarm for 2AM. Sleeping through the night was worth the price. After using the large rectangular pad I purchased the knee pad, and find it more comfortable to sleep with. The Polar customer service is great. I needed a longer velcro strap and they willingly provided it. Be sure to ask for the add on plastic support for the pad/hose connection. It stops the hose from kinking.

Game changer
2 weeks post TKR today. My Active Ice machine has been my constant companion. I just rotate in my stash of frozen water bottles and I can ice my knee all day long. Has helped with swelling and I’m able to use fewer narcotics. The 9 quart is nice and portable but still packs a powerful punch.

Total Knee Replacement therapy
Don't know how I would have gone through my first and hopefully only knee replacement without this ice machine. It would have been SO much more difficult. We did as advised by Randi (I believe that is her name) and used frozen water bottles instead of ice to keep the water cold. I adjusted the timer to 20 min. on and 30 min off then just let the machine do it's magic. I believe this wonderful little machine made what is a pretty difficult surgery a much easier experience.

Great pain reliever
It helps a lot with pain. Reasonably priced, too. I wish it had an ice block that you could freeze so you didn’t have to take 6 bottles in and out if the freezer. I would purchase that so it would stay frozen longer and wouldn’t be as messy. Also would improve on the Velcro straps and have it built in to the sleeve. And make the disconnect up closer so it isn’t so long to walk around.

Had knee replacement on July1. I purchased this product based on a recommendation from the PT. It is great. Gets cold fast and stays cold. Best think is being about to use .5L water bottles as the cooling medium. I put in 6 frozen bottles and use the machine around 7 in the morning. I have a pools of 18 bottles to load up the machine. But on set is good for 5 or 6 treatments over about 12 to 14 hours. Also, you don't have to dump and refill the cooler. Just put in a new set of bottles. It's great. I use it several times over the course of the day and only have to use one set of bottles.

Ice Therapy
This product is great and the sales associate was super helpful when I called in guiding me which knee compression to get for my TKR surgery which was the full circumference one. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is after a period of time the Velcro straps curl up on one end and doesn’t stick as well as it did when I first started using it. The clear plastic thing that attaches the hoses to the pad eventually stops sticking as well. Other than that it’s a great machine and has worked out well for me during my recovery period.

Relief!

High Quality and great value
Very satisfied with the quality, functionality and value price of this product. The durable water reservoir is very spacious and allows frozen water bottles instead of ice. Great Product!
I recently had full knee replacement surgery. My daughter recommended that I purchase a Cold Therapy System as part of my recovery. After some research, I purchased the Polar Active Ice system. Must Have
Just had total knee replacement 1 week ago. This unit has been awesome! My hubby fills with frozen water bottles and it lasts for hours. The timer is a must-have. Set it and forget it. Polar Active Ice Review
I purchased the Polar Active Ice for a total knee replacement after research. Highly recommended for the following reasons: Ease of use with no back and forth trips to the freezer or mess. I rotated frozen water bottles in the am and they lasted 24 hours. This allows me to keep the unit plugged in all day and ready for multiple use throughout the day into the evening. The timer is a game changer allowing for peace of mind and easy shut off of unit after cycle completes. Lastly the customer service was exceptional which sealed the deal for me.

Caregiver
We purchased this product because my husband was having a knee replacement. It has been a godsend, so easy to use and the wrap stays cold for a long time. The timer makes it very simple as it goes on and off at a specific time. This eliminates switching out ice wraps every hour or so. Just fill with frozen water bottles and it lasts 12 hours or so. It has made all the difference in his recovery being able to ice so easily.

Great System

don't have knee replacement without this
We bought this unit before my recent knee replacement surgery and it's been a key tool in managing post-op challenges including pain. It's easy to use and reliable of course it helps relieve the swelling, but also helps manage the pain from PT required walking. I'll never go through another joint operation without having one of these with me post-op.

Good Product
I've been using this for 5 days now after knee surgery. I like it so much more than ice. Much more convenient! I found that placing frozen water bottles inside just doesn't chill the water as much as dumping good-old ice in there. I did then top it off with a few bottles of frozen water to help keep it colder, longer, and it seems to helps. I really like the auto-on & off function. I actually look forward to using it!

Great system, great company
Buy direct from US company. They answer the phone, they ship the next day. You can get exactly what you need. Ability to swap out 6 sealed frozen water bottles is incredibly fast, clean and convenient. Timer gives you adjustable periods of cooling and rest, even if you fall asleep. I chose to add extension tubing and power cord - tank is out of the way, tubing routed so it is not a trip hazard, and control is right at my bedside. Large knee pad is perfect for TKR. Temperature is uniform and constant. I wish I had this for my first TKR. Inexpensive, but SO beneficial!

I LOVE it!
Far surpasses my hopes, for sure. It is super easy to setup and use. Yes, there's a little learning curve at the front end I had one of my friends come over and we unpacked and set up together. 24 16.9oz bottles (12 in cooler 12 in freezer to swap out) I use distilled water only in it (that's just me figured it can only help preserve it's life). YES! It's great.

Awesome Machine, works great
I ordered this machine with the full size pad so that it would be useful with my upcoming knee surgery so that it would cover the entire knee and not just the top. I watched several YouTube videos and they were very informative. I also had a friend that used one for her knee replacement. I used 6 frozen 16.9 oz water bottles to keep the water cold. About every 10-12 hours we would switch out the water bottles for new frozen bottles. The pump circulated the cold water through the pad and kept my knee swelling to a minimum. The remote made it even more awesome because I could put it on either in the day or at night and it would cycle on and off. My routine was 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off. I never had to worry about turning it off and on. I highly recommend this product for anyone having knee surgery. Last but not least it is less expensive to purchase this machine than rent one, unless your insurance will cover the cost.

Excellent for Post-Operative Recovery
This cold compression was a huge help with ACL recovery. I got the full circumference (rectangular) pad since I was going to be having a hamstring graft from behind my knee. The 9qt cooler with 6 frozen 16oz bottles of salt water (3 x 6 to rotate the frozen ones) keep it cold for hours, though it would be just cool by morning. I used a crossbody purse/messenger bag to carry the bottles to/from the freezer while I was on crutches. The newer controller allowing control over time on/off as well as coldness (really the flow rate) was a big help, because it can be almost too cold with fresh bottles, but not quite enough a few hours later. I'll keep using this going forward for knee stiffness and swelling. For long-term storage, based on other reviews of similar products, maybe take it out every 1-2 months to run some water (ice or not) for just a little bit to keep all the elements operational.

Had partial left knee 4/21/23. Had rented an ice machine for two weeks post surgery. Rental expired. Went online to find n research ice machines to purchase that were complicated. Went on online to Polar, excellent reviews. Called up the Polar Company n customers Services was outstanding. Ordered online, two day shipping (no charge). Ordered Tuesday, received Thursday. Had couple of questions, were always answered quickly. Set up was easy( I am not tech person n live alone). My neighbor brought me 18 16oz Smart water bottles. These have no plastic labels to remove when placing six frozen bottles in the ice chest. Have a small table on the left size of my bed n the ice machine is placed on this table. Hose is long. Make sure when attached to pad , hose attached to pad is straight. Otherwise, water spout in cooler stops spouting water out. After several times, I figured it out. The six frozen water bottles stay frozen for about 2 days. I then place 6 frozen bottles from freezer n freeze the six removed. Has a timer which is so convenient . Also to clean, a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol in the cooler every 2 weeks. Last week, cleaned out n replaced water with fresh water. The city company is family owned n based in the US. I am fascinated by the invention of this machine. Would love to meet the inventor. Price was within by means. Thk you everyone at Polar Company. Just amazing product n company. Polar Active Ice Knee compression Cold Therapy
I had arthroscopic knee surgery and I had the Polar Cold Therapy waiting for me when I got home from the hospital. I kept in on for 3 days, only re-filling the machine 1 time a day. The built in timer made the whole thing WONDERFUL! No messing around with bags of ice and constant changing of ice packs. After the first three days, when I was able to get up and walk around a bit with crutches, I went right back to the cold therapy. I am 2 weeks post-surgery, and I have no pain at all (I used the prescribed pain pills for just 2 days} and I attribute this greatly to the Polar Active Knee compression Cold Therapy! Active Ice 3.0 knee therapy
Order shipped quickly and very easy to use. Performs ten times better than regular cold packs. Chills so well I had to set the flow rate down on the controller right away on first use. I got the Full Circumference Knee pad for therapy on a total knee replacement I had and find it doesn’t conform well around the joint. Looks like the Knee, Ankle, Elbow and Joint pad might do a better job making contact around the varied surfaces. Overall very pleased with the system.

Great product and service
Thank you so much for your prompt service. My first knee replacement has gone so well, thanks in a great part to your system, that the doctor has scheduled my next knee less than 2 months after the first. I used the Polar cooler regularly to reduce pain. I was able to only use Tylenol after 10 days and keep swelling to a minimum. The full knee pad is large enough to cool the back of my knee too, which helps with physical therapy exercise pain. Your products arrived promptly and service was more than efficient. Great Customer Service
I ordered this icing machine for my knee after replacement surgery. I purchase an extra hose to cover the distance needed to reach where I would be in bed. FedEx lost the box and Polar sent another icing system for next day delivery along with a return label in case the first one arrived. The second machine arrived the next day and worked well accept the extra hose was not consistently fitting correctly. When the lost machine did finally arrive, they told me to take the extra hose from the second machine and anything else (I could not find the instructions at the time I spoke to them, but was able to locate them later) I might need from the items in the first (lost) box. They were so helpful with any questions I had, before and after purchase, and were very accommodating.

Best decision

Love this product!
I purchased the full circumference knee pad with the 9 qt. system and I love it. I wrap it around my knee, covering both front and back. The Velcro belt holds it on tight. I am now going to purchase the shoulder therapy pad to go along with it.

Chillaxing Rocks!
The full circumference knee compression pad is working out great for me after having full knee replacement 10 days ago. It is definitely helping a lot with bringing down the swelling. I bought direct through Polar Products instead of Amazon and I am glad I did because I ordered the extra length tubing and cords and it makes it a lot easier to have the extra lengths. I have been putting in 5 20oz frozen water bottles and if I put them in at bedtime I am good the entire night and swap them out in the morning to be good the entire day to the next night swap out. I can't say enough good things about this product and wouldn't want to be going through this recovery without it!
